Disabling Unnecessary Windows Services

All versions of windows come with a variety of services running in the background that might not be relevant to you, or are useless for a digital audio workstation. Suggesting what to disable is difficult, because it really depends on your needs. The digital audio workstations at our studio are dedicated to one, and one purpose only: Audio Production! So for example we don’t use WiFi or Bluetooth, everything uses wired connections, which means I don’t need the radio services to be on. Instead of suggesting what to disable to lower DPC latency and improve stability of your PC workstation, I’ll present a list of what every service does, and what it is safe to disable according to Microsoft, and according to our personal tests.

The Microsoft selection of “OK to Disable” doesn’t mean you should disable the service. If you follow it blindly, you could heavily impair your workstation functionalities. If you have no experience customizing your windows system, please wait for someone from my team to compile our list or recommended services that are worth disabling to reduce DPC Latency.
